Default Replacement Diff from Cadillac - will it whine too?

My stock '05 diff whines on the highway. As far as I can tell, Cadillac is the only company who offers a replacement. Has anybody replaced their diff with a newer Cadillac diff and does your new Cadillac diff whine like the original?

Thanks
Jeff

Whining is just fine, that is what they do. Are you under warranty, changed the fluid?

No warranty. I'm told replacing the fluid won't help.

I saw your post of fb, so you are just replacing it just to replace it? Is it acting up or something? A little differential whine is a common problem with these cars, there are posts where guys have gone to the dealer to be told it is normal. 40$ fluid change is a good start

I'm not sure how loud yours is but they all whine

Its not acting up, its just really irritating to me. So if a replacement diff will fix the problem I'll replace it.

unless you are under warranty I'd love with it or consider one of the many upgrade solutions.

I've had 6 diffs. they either hum, wine, or howl

Start by adding a bit of dynamat to select trunk areas and under the rear seat. Don't go nuts with this stuff, not necessary. Then add another layer of carpet like sound deadening material under the rear seat. Makes a nice difference.

I dynamat my whole car couple of years ago. I added some Reflectix Insulation under the seat and under the trunk carpet to help with the noise.
I cant find a picture with the reflectix insulation under the seat.

The Gen IV diff I had installed did not make a peep the entire time I had it installed. Just don't get a used one unless it's a Gen IV. If you get one from the dealer it will be a Gen IV so no worries.

Make sure you drain and refill with Redline fluid after 500 miles and you're golden.

I went from a Original Gen 1 diff with a little bit of whine, to a Gen 4 under warranty. The Gen 4 was immediately much much louder. I've had it for a few years, and just learn to live with it.

My 2c, don't replace yours unless its really really bad.

I'm a firm believer that some good diff fluid (amsoil here) and heat shielding from the exhaust is the key to a quiet differential.

What about a vibration growling noise only in 6th gear enough to make the rear view unusable. The dealer is telling me its a diff and I'm 2 days past my cpo

There was a TSB from GM to replace the Trans assembly for that problem.

Hey guys, new to the forum and english is my third language so be kind
I'm researching parts for an AWD roadster build and have noticed that 3.42:1 IRS diffs don't grow on trees. However the Caddy CTS has one. So my questions are;
Is it any good? I don't care about whinig nois, won't hear it anyway, but I do dislike when diffs brake.
What splinecount are the axleshafts at the hub and bearing assy?
Are they "GM splines"?
My aim is about 2200-2500lbs, 400-450 turbo hp at the wheels, manual transmission, AWD, street/strip/track(Nurburgring North)

The CTS-V has a 3.73:1 differential. If you are looking at getting a base CTS differential, it's a different part.
