Default CTS-V under book value at dealer?

Hey guys,

I'm in the market for a V1 CTS-V but everything that I'm looking for (06-07 less than 60,000 miles) is $4,000 or more over book at a dealer. What gives? I know that I don't have to pay asking price, but I don't really see a dealer dropping their price from $24,xxx to $20,000. This just seems odd, especially for a sports car in the winter.

Thoughts and experiences?

KBB isn't much good for anything with an enthusiast following...

Particularly when it's a rare car in the first place...

And now you're looking at something eight years old that's been driven 7500 a year...

Gotta pay if you want the cream puff.

I actually used Edmunds because I told it was more accurate than KBB. As far as it being a rare care, I definitely understand that. However, looking at 04s and 05s with >50,000, they are all quite close to the Edmunds retail price.

If dealers are going to gouge 06-07 I'll probably have to pass since I'm already going to have to roll in a bit of my current loan.

At that price you may as well throw in another $10K and look for a higher mileage V2. Might even find one with part of the powertrain warranty left.

Yeah, I don't think "book values" are indicative of these cars prices. My 05 is far from perfect and needed some work, but I sacrificed that because it had 65k on it. The bumper was chipped pretty bad, some other blemishes, but I paid what I did because of the mileage. I had to replace the rear bushings right of the bat. All in all, I'll probably wind up putting a few thousand out of pocket to make it nice, but I got a pretty good deal on it. Had long tubes and exhaust already, so saved a bit there.

Gl with the search.

I just checked kbb and an 07 with 50k is right at 24k. http://www.kbb.com/cadillac/cts/2007...icetype=retail

Dealers are always going to charge full retail, that is what they do to make money

Buy my 2007 with a full warranty and only 55k miles for $23k. No longer has any mods...completely stock and ready for someone to make it their own.

Yeah, you're right- I never checked KBB. Well, according to KBB, a 2006 with low miles might be better for me.

I'm afraid I might be pushing to get a CTS-V a little too hard. I just bought the wife a new car this week and was amazed at the interest rate we got from USAA (1.49%). I figured I'd see if I could get into a different vehicle as well, but since I'm about $4,000 in the red in my Jeep and can only finance 120% of a car's value, that kinda limits what I can do.

Anyway, I appreciate the quick guidance. I think I'll have to wait and see if a 2006 pops up for sale this next month that I'm able to get for $1,000-2,000 under book. If not, guess I'll be waiting a year and hope that interest rates are still amazingly low.

I would at least see what the dealer can do. Low mileage 06 and 07s don't come along every day, you just have to figure out what it is worth to you.

Don't know what state you're in but some states like mine are tax free when you buy private party. I got mine a few months ago, 2006 84k miles but great condition, seats look brand new and only paid $16k. Try private party you will get a better deal and I bet usaa has good rates on that as well.

Got my 07 for $14450 with 94,000k. Couple door dings, some curb rash on the wheels, and had some front collision repair, but is a super clean car with a clear title. I really wanted a 07 but didn't want to pay $20k. Good luck with your search.

Well, it doesn't necessarily have to be low mileage. The magic formula for me right now is an $18-20,000 vehicle that I can get for $1-2,000 under book (gives me room in the loan for the negative equity in my Jeep).

I'm in MD. However, I can't go private party because I was planning on trading-in my Jeep.

[QUOTE=Raptor99;17973271]Navy, 2002-07.

Marine Corps here. For Navy, I will drop my price $1k to $22k if you can swing it. That's $2000 under KBB and a full warranty on the engine and body.

PM if interested!

In 2011 I bought an '04 with 65k miles for $16,500 when they were asking $19,500.

So, my advice is to lowball the dealer, $3-4k lower than they are asking, and be prepared to walk. If they don't bite, tell them to call if they change their mind.

Why '06-07? Do you like truck motors?

I'm thinking of selling mine this spring/summer. Searching for its replacement.

And a local dealer had an '06 with 50ks miles listed at $23k that sold for probably a little less.

It appears for every -10k miles, +$1k.
