Default Best Rear-End/Gear Options and Fitment

In the near future I'm looking to build up a WS6 M6 to about 500rwhp with a ProCharger making my boost. I'd like to build it to be more of a cruiser/street racer but would love to be able to compete in some autocross. Although it may be a little overkill for a mainly street car I'd like to install a Hotchkis TVS system (which will include lowering the car 1") along with the MWC 9" rear. From what I've read the MWC 9" is what I'm looking for but I'm open to any and all suggestions.

With that said, I'm assuming the Hotchkis system and MWC 9" can fit together considering the rear end bolts into the stock mounts. Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm also looking for some input on what would be my best option for gears. I'm thinking 3.90's or possibly 3.73's.

There's a wealth of information out here already, however a 9" rear will easily support your power goals. Might want to look into a Wavetrack if you're going to auto-x.

From a rear gear standpoint, what's most important to you for your build? I've used both 3.90's and 4.10's on my setup and LOVE 4.10's. I started with 3.90's as the compromise between 3.73 and 4.10.

Once those broke, I went up to 4.10's and that's where I should've started.....love the feel on the street, love it on road courses and I still have plenty of gear to finish the 1/4 mile in 4th gear.

The negatives to the 4.10 are:

A. reduced mileage (not really an issue for a built car.....not driving it for it's fuel efficiency),
B. reduced top end -- I do end up in 5th gear for some of the higher speed sections of road courses
C. reduced traction down low (not a huge issue because with 500 rwhp you'll still have traction issues down low with the stock 3.42's).
D. more frequent shifting

So little difference between the 3.90s and 4.11s

Get the S track and a gear ratio between 3.70 and 4.11 depending on tire height.

Call up mwc and talk to Aj or Eric, there rears are about the best bang for the buck!

I always thought between 3.55 and 3.70 was the best way to go with a procharger. I believe that was the consensus in the FI section.

At 500 rwhp on a centrifugal blower, I think the 3.73's would be the best choice. I'm running 4.10's and at 450 rwhp n/a it's perfect, but on a 100 shot it's just way too much gear lol

Yeah the 3.73 would be the right choice, but like said above it definitely depends on tire size.

Use a gear calculator to find your optimal ratio. With 500hp you need something that will go 130~ in your 1:1 gear.

I don't plan on being on an extremely tight budget but I'm definitely looking more towards getting the best bang for my buck.
The 3.89 gears have been very popular with the T56 cars, but the 3.70 ratio will work well too. Keep in mind the more power you make the less gear you will need.

The MWC 9' rearend package will easily be the wisest investment for a solid driveline. Give us a call before you buy anything from Hotchkiss as well... there are other ways to go there that will most likely do just as good or better for less cost.

The Motive gears are probably the best value, but oem gears will have the best chance of low noise. The aftermarket gears in these 7.5" rears have a bad tendency to whine, even when setup properly.

Give us a call... we can help you out on all your rearend an suspension needs with the highest quality parts and the guaranteed lowest prices.
