Default 8.8 ?

I see a lot of guys going with a 8.8 swap in 4th gen f-bodys. Has anybody tried a 8.5 out of a truck? Im not hard core brand loyal, but if I can stick to a chevy rear and be just as cheap and strong why not?

The 8.5" is doable however the 8.8 is much easier since a member has a killer tq arm mount for a very friendly cost.

Same basic process for any axle conversion. Pick one and roll with it

I prefer 8.8s
Used an explorer 31sp 3.73 axle in its entirety with disk brakes. Lengthened the pass tube approx 3" with an internal sleeve, used a second drivers side axle on the pass side. Built a TA mount, added 10 bolt brackets, 1.5" ford 4.5 to GM 4.75 adapters

Stout axle, same dims as a 4th gen 10 bolt. Cost around $200

Before that I used a ranger 28sp 8.8, cut the tubes off then slid 10 bolt tubes in and reused 4th gen axles. Built a TA
Cost $97

Quick Reply: 8.8 ?
