Grinding/slipping at high revs?
This just happened. Guy was riding my tail so I stomped on it in 3rd gear. All was as normal until after a few seconds and then OOMPH - grinding sound and it stopped pulling. I coasted, downshifted, had grinding in 2nd, coasted almost to a stop, then I could actually drive. Drove 25mph home.
So I can drive the car in 1st thru 4th (too chicken to get on highway and try 5th/6th). But only if I keep it really slow and easy. If I go over 2k rpm, it starts to make a horrible grinding noise and acts like I put in the clutch.
Any words of wisdom beyond "your t56 is toast"? This is a rebuilt unit with about 10k miles of not so hard driving installed in a very light 1971 Datsun 240z.
