oil pan for ls swap on 72 Nova
Have an lq4 truck engine thats going into 72 nova. Have trans dapt motor mount adapters but pan is hitting on cross member. Question is should i modify pan or get after market. Second question is do I really need a baffled oil pan? Thanks any help is greatly appreciated.

I used the truck pan and made my own frame mounts since the headers I used would have hung lower than the Holley LS oil pan. The engine sits 1/4" higher and it allows it to clear the cross member and the steering linkage.

Yeah it does hang down below the cross member but so do the Dynatech headers. I can't remember exactly how much but it hangs 1/2" below the headers. It's at stock ride height I think I have about 6" or so of clearance. Not ideal but it worked for me and might not be for everyone.

Holley pan looks awesome and dimensions are exactly what i need! Thanks for the info. Other than holley any other pans to look at that someone has used? would like to shop around before deciding on one.

I have a 66 nova and used a h3 hummer 5.3l oil pan. I know companies use to sell this oil pan as the hotrod oil pan, the Holley oil pan may be close in dimension to it but mine does not hang too low, about even with my crossmember. Just bolted it on no fab was required.

I tried the GMPP oil pan in my 71 chevelle and it hung about 2 inched below the crossmember
Local tuner and installer said he does this Uses an F body pan
Pulled it out and put the LS1 f body pan back on it
I had to do some miner floor mods and a little grinding on the crossmember removed the frame engine mounts removed the brake line and it fits really good about 3/4 inch of clearance around crossmember and 1 inch to firewall
I then remounted the frame mounts the engine sits back about 1 inch from original location
I am using Hookers mount adapter and headers
The drivers side header did interfere with the brake P-valve so I am relocating that
