Want some input, supercharged pro touring LS engine
I am wanting to replace the 502 BBC in my chevelle with a supercharged LS engine and would like to make 600-650 hp at the wheel. Being I am starting with a clean slate what is a good foundation to start with? I was thinking that the LS 376-B15 would be a good starting point but don't have a clue where to start. Would it be cheaper to build a 6.0 or 6.2?

Some of us are using LQ4's and LQ9's with Magnachargers. They work quite well and will fit under a cowl hood. Take a look at the 67 GTO thread here where he is in the process of the install right now. I am happy to provide any information you may require. The driveability and available power of the LS trumps nearly any other platform out there.

Thanks for the input people. I am really green when it comes to this LS stuff and can't decide what to use for a block. I think I am leaning towards the LS3 with a 5 or 6 speed. I'm still in the planning stages so this can change in a heart beat. I need to spend some time on this forum to help my decision.

The choice will end up being dictated in part by your budget. An iron block 6.0 is pretty cheap compared to the LS3 and all of the truck brackets and accessories will fit your Chevelle. Add your choice of supercharger and you are all set.

About the only 5 speed that has a chance against that sort of HP would be a TKO. You are better off with a good T56 like said above. An auto would be better yet, give your rear a better chance of surviving.

I have thought of picking up a Mustang head unit and fabbing brackets for my setup. I'm curious how you did yours. Thanks.
edit - found your build thread and asked the same basic question there. Looks to be a reverse rotation head unit from a mod motor car?

I replaced a 600 HP 502 BBC in my GTO with a mostly stock LS3. The current engine makes less power, but I also took 300 pounds off the nose of the car. In the end, the car is almost as fast as it was with the 502.
