Default Want some input, supercharged pro touring LS engine

I am wanting to replace the 502 BBC in my chevelle with a supercharged LS engine and would like to make 600-650 hp at the wheel. Being I am starting with a clean slate what is a good foundation to start with? I was thinking that the LS 376-B15 would be a good starting point but don't have a clue where to start. Would it be cheaper to build a 6.0 or 6.2?

Any of the ls engines with a supercharger should hit 600 whp pretty easy. If you're looking for cheapest, get whatever engine you can find the cheapest and go from there.

Some of us are using LQ4's and LQ9's with Magnachargers. They work quite well and will fit under a cowl hood. Take a look at the 67 GTO thread here where he is in the process of the install right now. I am happy to provide any information you may require. The driveability and available power of the LS trumps nearly any other platform out there.

I put a cam only LS3 in my mustang with a Paxton Novi 2000, and it made 656rwhp on 10# of boost through a high stall powerglide.

Thanks for the input people. I am really green when it comes to this LS stuff and can't decide what to use for a block. I think I am leaning towards the LS3 with a 5 or 6 speed. I'm still in the planning stages so this can change in a heart beat. I need to spend some time on this forum to help my decision.

The choice will end up being dictated in part by your budget. An iron block 6.0 is pretty cheap compared to the LS3 and all of the truck brackets and accessories will fit your Chevelle. Add your choice of supercharger and you are all set.

You wanted cheap, then pick an LS3 as a base? A bone stock 5.3 with a vortech or pro charger will hit 600whp at 16-18 pounds of boost through a manual. Cam, intake, headers, will all lower the PSI it takes to get there. Most people severely over think, over complicate, and overpay for their setups.

What would be a decent 5 or 6-speed to put behind it?

I'd stay away from 5 speeds. A T56 will withstand the power with a few mods And a good clutch. A TR6060 is the better choice but will require some more cash/work.

About the only 5 speed that has a chance against that sort of HP would be a TKO. You are better off with a good T56 like said above. An auto would be better yet, give your rear a better chance of surviving.

Where did you get the Novi bracket? Is it a reverse rotation blower or standard?

I have thought of picking up a Mustang head unit and fabbing brackets for my setup. I'm curious how you did yours. Thanks.

edit - found your build thread and asked the same basic question there. Looks to be a reverse rotation head unit from a mod motor car?

I replaced a 600 HP 502 BBC in my GTO with a mostly stock LS3. The current engine makes less power, but I also took 300 pounds off the nose of the car. In the end, the car is almost as fast as it was with the 502.
