Default ***1 7/8th kooks headers install***

I have a 2000 camaro ss and I plan on buying the kooks 1 7/8th headers and y-pipe. I was wondering if I would need to lift the engine to install these. I really want to do them myself because labor is expensive! Thanks.

Shouldn't need to. Its just like any other header install just a little bit tighter.

I didn't lift my engine... would have made it easier, however. I had to bang on the firewall a bit for the driver's side and unbolt my steering rack. And I had brand new Prothane Motor Mounts in there that lift it up quite a bit.

Also, you have to get the front end of the car up at least 24" in order to turn the headers vertical, or else they'll never slide into place.

Make sure you request the new style y-pipe or they'll send you old stock with the dated merge. Thats a good mod to start with if your new to working on cars. The back passenger side bolts are probably the biggest pain to deal with. I've put on two sets of Kooks and they both fit very well.....no need to lift the engine.

Check out ls1howto.com for instructions with pics.
