Default Do i need a new oil pan gasket for cam swap?

I am getting ready do do my cam swap. I am putting in a TR 224 112, comp 918 springs, double roller timing set, hardened pushrods & an LS6 ported oil pump. My question is when I drop the oil pan to put the oil pump in do i need to put in a new oil pan gasket? I am about to buy the gasket kit from Thunder Racing but I dont see the oil pan gasket in the kit. Other than the gaskets is there anything else I need to complete the swap. I already have a spring compressor and the other special tools needed for the swap. Thanks for your help.

Well I finally found the oil pan gasket on the Thunder website. Also will the pan drop out all the way? By the looks of it there isn't enough room to pull it all the way out. If it wont come off then is there enough room to clean off the old gasket to replace it with a new one? Should I just use RTV sealant?

you might have to loosen the oil pan in order to get enough room to take off the bolt that holds the oil pickup tube, and you will have to undo every bolt in the pan. but dont take them all the way out, just enough to get the pan to drop down a little, then sit in front of the motor and do the timing chain and the oil pump. i did not use a new gasket and has been leak free from 68,000 miles ( when cam went it ) to 81,000 miles

I've changed my timing chain and degreed it three times and have not changed the pan gasket. No leakage yet. Did not even change the O-ring on the oil pick up tube.

I do have a slight oil leak but i cant tell if its coming from the pan or the rear main. A shop told me its from the rear main but it appears to be coming from the oil pan. Will the oil pan come out? Do i have enouph room to put in a new gasket and clean out the old one? Or should i just use some RTV and let it set for a while before filling the car up with oil.

Anyone know if the pan pan will come out or if there is room to place a new gasket?

if you feel like dropping your K-member, yes. otherwise, no. there isn't enough room to drop the pan or even change the gasket. trust me, i'm a GM technician and have done a cam swap in mine just a month ago. they are fun!!!

You don't need a new gasket, it's reusable metal. It's possible to get the oil pump out without dropping the pan, but it's not worth it. Just drop the pan and save yourself some frustration.

Cam i put some rtv sealant around the pan to hopefully seal it up a little better. I think my oil leak may be coming from the pan. Since i will be dropping the pan a little i would like to troubleshoot. So if the oil leak is from the pan i will take care of it while i am there. Thanks for everyones help so far.

I reused my oil pan gasket and it has 80,000 miles on it. Sealed great and no leaks.
