Default torque converter help

hey guys, I have a 1998 ls1 that I done a swap with and the trans that came with it took a dump, so I found one at a great price with a fresh rebuild. It came out of a 98 truck, so I know that I have to use the spacer adapter, but my problem is I have about 3/4 - 1 inch gap between the flexplate to tc. I measured my old tc that came factory with motor and from pads to end of pump shaft is 6 1/2 in, and on the other tc is 5 7/8 in. So i'm thinking that is my problem for no pump engagement. So are the tc from gen 3 to gen 2 different thickness?

Can you take some pics of the transmission bellhousing/input shaft area and the converter. I think we have a mismatch of parts. From there we can determine what flexplate you will need.

Sounds like we have a LT to LS issue. But need pics to verify, that is the easiest way to be sure.

I figured it out, I was told to swap the bellhousing from the ls trans to the older one, after some measuring, the LS1 bellhousing is about a inch longer, therefore spacing my tc and flexplate out that same distance, so I'll swap bellhousing back around and should be good to go. Thanks guys for all your suggestions.
