Default Radar Detector?

What radar detectors does everyone run in here? I don't speed all the time, just typical fun runs along the highway and back roads every now and then. My question is do I need a $400 valentine 1 or would I be okay with a Passport 8500 xi?

I have had three and worked my way up to the V1. First two were a Cobra then an escort. I never got caught with either but plenty of times i would see a cop watching for speeders and my detector didn't trigger or was late. So I forked over the cash for the V1 based on a friend's recommendation.

It seems the best for sure at early detection. I pick up nearly all traps and even some early warning on a laser. I have had it for years now and it is great!

I'm broke so i use a passport 8500 x 50, but i plan on buying a 9500ix when i get some money. Ive never used a V1 or 9500ix yet, but i can tell you my 8500 x 50 works AWESOME! It catches all kinds of laser and does a great job on radar, DEFINITELY worth the money(which you can find very cheap on ebay) and has saved my *** a many a times.

Most on here will say the V1>9500ix, but I disagree. If you go top notch decide what features you want in a radar first before you buy.

If you stick with the 9500 or V1, you should be fine. I don't like messing with cheap detectors.

That said, I have the V1 and couldn't be happier. (however, I've never had the passport.)

I know they're basically a get what you pay for kinda thing, so while I don't need a V1, I feel like I might as well own up the extra $100 for one. I'm glad to know the 8500 x50 works awesome, in case something happens in the next week or so and can't splurge on the V1.

No problem, I feel like if it's a good one it should be mentioned.

Radars? Those are for slow cars! They are not going to catch me if they try.

I've always had good luck with wrapping my hubcaps with foil. I splurged for the Reynold's. Using a store brand is too cheesy in my opinion.

V1!!!!
Cant be beat, Except with with Pop Radar or Laser. The only time ive ever got surprised, is with the Pop Radar on an empty road.
But If they are using it on other cars you'll be warned.

I'd like to know what Laser Jammer works the ones ive seen have been BS. (but i havent looked into them for a while)

Radar detectors are only good for the cops that leave their Doppler radar on. Otherwise, of they blip the activation while you are in a clear area or they use laser, your screwed. So they have some use, but none for a cop that knows how to use his tools.

Mine has saved me multiple times in sa and here in town especially with all dang kamikaze motorcycle cops we have around here and places where ****** hide under dark overpasses and behind on ramps.

MC cops around here are like ones on bugs bunny hide behind trees signs cactus parked cars you name it they are thick as thieves and thrive off college community.

I have this one and it's awesome! Now I did get hit up last night on blt8,I was behind 2 other cars in the middle lane. When I saw him I let off the gas,no brakes and got to him at around 67mph. I saw him pull out and I just stayed at this speed, this was at Hammerly,he continued to follow me as the other cars left us. Eventually he pulled me right after 290,said it was for suspension of a laser jamming device and 70 mph. He said he pulled my car because it was the most likely to have a jamming system, my thinking is he must of got the speed from the other cars or as he was pacing me. He told me that it was illegal to have any jamming device since 2009 in Tx.,took pics and went back to his car. Came back and gave me a warning since there was no violation code set yet for this, real nice and very informative. Could have got me for other things but let it go,I've never heard of the new law. Sorry for being long, just wanting give my perspective. I won't be getting rid of it,but now I've got a little more knowledge. Mine has been very, very good to me. L8R DFLASH
