Fuel problem on my 99 Hugger orange..
So.... I added a FAST intake along with a couple of other things back in December. I drove the car 2x after that. The third time I started the car without any problems, was backing out of my drive way when it died. It was rather cold and the car wasn't warm yet so I didn't think anything of it except it hasn't started since.
I tested the fuel pressure and I'd have to turn the key to the ON position about 4-5 times before it would gradually go up to ~55 or so. I was told it wasn't normal so I replaced the racetronix pump with a new Walbro 255. That didn't fix the issue. Went back and connected the FP gauge and it's the same scenario. I have to turn the key 4-5 times before it hits 55 or so psi. I went to crank it when it finally did hit 55 but it still won't start.
I tried using the relay from the AC compressor in place of the fuel pump relay (same type of relay), same results. I'm stuck.
Also, after turning the ignition on and off to get the FP up, it'll sometimes do something weird where the relay makes a tripping sound very fast as it's going ok and off but super fast and FP goes to like 60+, after about 5 seconds it stops. No clue what that's about
Is it normal for the pump to gradually build pressure like that? If not shouldn't it start once it finally is at 55psi?
Should I be looking at something other than fuel as the culprit??
Here's a pic of the car just because...
Also, I've since taken off the FAST intake along with the fuel rail it had when it all started and replaced it with the stock intake manifold/rail and same issue. So it eliminates the fuel rail as a problem.
Compression test results:
Front to back driver
195
222 I double checked after finishing all the other and it was 190... Weird.

It's probably due to
the color of the car.
Actually, a suggestion: Did you change/damage anything in the pump hanger, when you changed the pump?
Sounds like it may be an internal leak. [And, could be, there was nothing wrong w/ the Racetronix pump, to begin with??]

Nothing in the hanger was damaged. I had a shop install the new pump in the hanger for me only because I've never done that and didn't want to mess with it.
I would agree except it doesn't really lose pressure. Pressure holds for a good while once it builds it up.
Correct, I don't think the pump was ever the issue.

Never had issue one when I owned it :-). I installed the racetronix pump and upgraded wiring myself. The car never failed me, drive it to the track, make 10 mid 11 second passes, drive it home.
Hope you can find the issue cuz that car is way too nice to be sitting in a garage.

It's going to be something simple I am sure. I just have to go through everything thoroughly. Your right! I really need to get this thing back on the road. Going on 4 months that it's been down.

Nope just key on, if the coolant temp is showing something outrageously cold it will dump fuel and make it hard as hell to start the car. Also if the TPS is maxed out it will shut the injectors off and prevent them from spraying during startup. Theres a lot of things you can troubleshoot this way.
