Default Rod knock or dual mass flywheel?

After installing my Alradco radiator yesterday I took the car for a ride to get it up to heat. I pulled over alongside the road and reved it to about 1800 in neutral with the clutch out and I could hear what sounded like a rod knock? Back down to idle and I got nothing. Reved it back up and I could hear a rod knock sound again.
Drove it on home and pulled into the garage, reved it up to around 1800, rod knock sound again. Decided to push the clutch in at 1800 and it was quit as a mouse. Went to run to the store about a half hour later and I couldn’t get it to make that sound again. What do you guys think dual mass flywheel?

That sounds about right. Mine just vibrates a bit, 1800-2200rpm.

Thanks, that reassuring… don’t want it to be a rod. Anyone else experience this?

How's your oil pressure? If its low or 0... That's symptoms of bearings going bad and that will cause rod knock.

My stock flywheel sounded like a can full of marbles.

I’ll have to check oil pressure tonight and report back, but I don’t recall it being low. I would think if it were a bearing going bad it would knock/rattle at idle and it doesn’t do that, just around 1800rpm and only with the clutch out. If it were low or “0” wouldn’t a light or something come on?

Correct. I was just trying to ease your mine. Also if you started to lose pressure your oil pressure switch should kill the motor before I starts ripping itself apart.

I had a similar issue, every morning when i started my car... it would knock like a rod and stop when i pushed in the clutch.. also sometimes when shutting it off it sounded like a jar of marbles.. disapearred when i changed my clutch and flywheel.

That was probably the throwout bearing if it did it when it was cold or during the first start of the day.

But yes I have the same issue. At idle its quiet, at 1800+ rpms its loud. Its the flywheel. This only started happening the minute I put in the UMI Motor mounts.

Looks like 45psi at idle and 54psi and 1800rpm.

Yeah, plenty of pressure. That sounds like it's cold, too. When my motor is fully warmed up, I'm at 32psi at idle.
