^ No. You can go anywhere to get respected free if you were previously failed and have a rejection slip. When inspectors fail you we check/ note the reason for failing the vehicle. But say you were told verbally you wouldn't pass there will be no record of the inspection. But a trick most people try is just going place to place acting like they haven't been inspected and just pay each time. But like I stated earlier if you were rejected and paid the inspection had already been submitted and is on file.

Ah, I knew that if they put the fail on file, the reason was there. I just was under the impression same shop had to see that you fixed it, otherwise the 2nd shop that just approves you without looking could get in trouble.
Regardless, good info.
OP- good luck. I was on the hunt last month since the guy I used to get stickers from vanished (lol?).

Anybody find a place? My sticker is way out, 12/2009. Have LT's, no cats, x-pipe with true duals dumped before the rear axle on my '98 T/A, so it's not like I can roll into Firestone or a chain place and pass. I've pushed my luck about as far as it will go. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I know this sounds dumb but it worked when I had my windows on my corvette spray painted black (exaggeration). I just rolled down the windows and either pulled the fuse or once when a mechanic really got into it and found the fuse I pulled the switch pod and pushed a pin back. Said my windows haven't worked in years and I park it in the garage. Never had an issue

what I do is go in and ask "Do you check for catalytic converters for inspections?" If they say yes , I go onto the next place. Ive never had to go to more than 3 or 4 shops before I find one. Had my car since it was new (14yrs) and never been failed.

I lucked out! FIS modified my EGR and Shorty Headers for emissions.
What you have to do is take your ride down to the South Side ... deep past SW Military area and ask some peps there, try the tire repair places. I'm Hispanic but don't talk Spanish so I took my wife which worked out with the Mustang I had a couple of years back

They still look at cats? Mine have been straight piped (no cats) for the last 2 years and I always keep my windows down even though they are legal tint. I always get hit for the stupid stuff like windshield wipers. Some places are just out to make a dime instead of fail you. Just go at a busy time where they try to get you in and out asap you may have to wait but its worth it.
