Number do seem off, but I thought they said "not bags full of money". Look at the list, if we tried to do all that it would be more like a dump truck full of money!

5000 stall converter? No wonder they are running 12s, they probably run out of gears at the 1/8th mile mark :jest:

That car has been around since like '99 and I could've sworn it runs in the high 9's. It was used more as a PR car with a pasenger seat to take GM execs and press members for a ride. I think it also has a one-off sheet metal intake with two TB's.

It was featured in one of the major mags like Hot Rod or Car Craft but it's been so long, I don't know for sure which one.

Thats a very old article, the car eventually went 9s on motor alone. This was back in '99 when it went 9s.

That and 5:13's - I bet it rocked the 1/8th mile!

Our Editor-In-Chief, Joe Oldham, turned a 12.358 quarter mile at 121.11 mph, in this near-Pro Street machine on the strip at Memphis Motorsports Park. 'Nuff said.

Wow, my car is a near-pro street machine too :lol

And I didn't even need a cam like this:

Erson hydraulic roller camshaft, intake: 256°
(.050-in.) duration, .635-in. max lift, exhaust:
265° (.050-in.) duration, .050-in. max
lift, 44.5° valve overlap

What the hell is wrong with these morons?

We have a time slip that proves this car can run eight-thousandths of a second faster (12.530) in the 1/4 mile than Chevy's equally conceptual Super Performance LS1 Camaro, although the 510's trap speed is 4.5 mph slower (116.57).

"Chevy theorizes that this combination of gearing could see 160 mph at 6500 rpm on the top end."

That's like saying a Viper's top speed is in the vicinity of 155. For god's sakes...somebody help these people!!! They probably think all Supras run 15s in the quarter mile. Not spending money bags!? They spent like $10,000 to run 12s!! If you can't run 12s with all the bolt ons, decent TC and drag radials...please, shoot yourself in the head. These are the kind of people who would shit their pants at the idea of a Honda Civic with a turbo running 14s.

Ohh...forgot to mention...

"So the factory 5.7-liter (350 cu.-in.) V8 became a one-off 6.6-liter (402 cu.-in.) monster."

Did they just say 350 cubic inches? No...they didn't. They couldn't have...not 350 cubic inches...

do they have a "email the editor" function???
if so i think even if this IS a old artical we should get them up to speed

Like I said guys, that article was written sometime in 1998 when these LS1s first came out. Back then there were only about 10 cars running 12s. No LS1s in the 11s back then. We started running 11s NA in 1999. I had the first 6-speed to consistently run 11s on motor, and there were only 5 other automatics doing it at the same time.

We have come a long way!

I still won't excuse them for saying that the LS1 was 350 cubic inches...

With 600 horsepower and 2800 lbs they weren't hitting 11's?

Really?

Well, thank god for progress.

jaberwaki

thats what i am saying....
its not the fact that they ran 12's back then...
its the fact that they ran 12's with 550-600 hp!!!

i mean come on

hey if they bumped it up to 9's then thats cool, Maybe they had no traction and went 11's, who knows (MPH seems kinda low though). Cool looking car though.

One of our members here that posts as "427" (Kurt) actually built that car and drove it into the 9s. The shop that made it is closely related to GM and builds their concept/show vehicles. Wheel To Wheel. The currently quickest LS1 in the world (Ronnie Duke's 8.5 second WS6 convertible) was also built by W2W. So, I think their reputation has more than proven themselves.
