94 or 95 4L60E DOES IT MATTER? I have a 95 Camaro, but I think the engine and tranny are from a 94. I say this because I just replaced the 5.7 opti and it has the small drive spline. I pulled the tranny out and it is M30 one piece bell with 4 bolt tail and has 8685061 cast and a green tag that shows 4KC-D7. I assume the 4 is 1994? I really don't know if the computer and wiring harness is original to the 95 or if they pulled it off the 94 donor. Couple questions: 1.) is it critical that the computer year matches the tranny year, and 2.) what is the easiest way to verify what year computer and wiring harness I actually have? I really don't want to go changing things that aren't necessary. Oh by the way the tranny is fried and needs rebuilt.

Yes, it does matter.
Look at the front of the trans, does it say PWM on it? If so it's not a 94
You can not use the 94 tranny with a 95 computer because of the way lockup works. It would have to be reprogrammed.

I have limited experience with the early 4L60E, but from reading and helping others on this forum, it seems that the 93/94, 95 and 96 are all different electrically. As mentioned "PWM" is one issue. The PCM needs to match the trans year.
'96 through '05 are all the same electrically (although there are 298mm and 300mm input shaft versions.)

Ok So if I am rebuilding the transmission from inside out (guts and all), I should match the transmissions gut years to the year of the computer based on what you are saying...How does one determine the year of the car's computer? I know the car has mods... I can take pics of the trans, but I don't see PWM anywhere on it.

It would be on the front pump
you need to build the trans as whatever year the trans is. If it's a 95, then build it as a 95.
You really need to know what year bin the pcm has. If it's a 94 PCM and a 95 trans, then the lockup will not work. If it's a 95 PCM and a 94 trans you will probably get a code because there is no pwm solenoid in the trans. If you're lucky the PCM was swapped with the motor and you're all set.

F body Brian, there is no "PWM" on the pump housing. It is a rebuilt GM goodwrench tranny. There are some very small numbers on the pump 8682132 G 20J. Do those numbers signify anything?
