Default 450-500rwhp goal build. Thought & opinions

So I recently bought a 2006 Ls2 cts v with 66k miles. Raven black with some chrome asanti rims. 245's front and 275's rear. 18" rim. It came with magnaflow mufflers and stock other than that. Sounds nice. Car is fast (and idle issue went away after cleaning TB so no more that) and i like it but kinda want alittle more and keep DD driveablitly. I'm looking for 450-500 rwhp and am wondering if these mods can maybe get me alittle close? So I'm looking to put these mods in it...
-Ls3 heads and ls3 intake manifold with ls7 throttle body Probably port everything
-K&N intake
-Cam (mild not to excessive)
-Headers
-E85 or Meth
-High flow cats
-Pushrods
-Valves & springs
-Fuel injectors
-Fuel system
Can these mods get me close to my goal? What's realistic numbers with these? What's a good cam? This will be my first ls build so any help and tips and recommendations on what i should go with would be great and appreciated. Any Q's just ask. Thanks!

You're gonna need a decent sized cam to get close to 500rwhp. E85 is a lot of work for the little bit of gain you'll see N/A. Meth is the same way. I think realistically on pump gas with those mods minus the fueling 460rwhp is pretty attainable.

You're going to make 450-460 RWHP with a max effort LS2 build. It would be far more cost effective to purchase a 416 CID LS3 shortblock for $5500.

Hmmm...ok ok. I have been thinking just a 78-80mm single turbo at like 5-7psi. But haven't really seen a single turbo cts v1 except for that 91mm comp turbo V. Real nice.

For your goals just keep it simple. Heads/cam is a very effective and reliable setup for 450rwhp.

500 is not happening without a stroker. Surprised fuzzy didn't mention it, but you want a custom 4" intake, or at the very least, something that flows better than the K&N. I just finished up putting a 4" pipe in. Much less restrictive. Stock injectors can support 450 no problem. As for a cam, you will need something like the TSP Tsunami (just an example). Daily driveable, but a bit big.

Heads/cam will be a whole new world to you if it's the first car you've ever built like that. Start there and when it feels slow then worry about the 500 mark

From soneone who has been there and done it, this is the most cost effective way.

Save the money from the heads, cam, intake and TB and build a new stroker motor. You can do it for $7k and be right at 500 rwHp. Set aside more money for a clutch and rear end or at least 1000 Hp axles.

I wish I would have just went straight to a stroker motor.

the ls7 TB wont work. use your ls2 and port that to the manifold.

So I have another cts v with a cast iron block that I was going to twin turbo and use for drag/street mainly but should I use an iron block to build stroker? Or save for the turbo's? Do I buy a stroker kit, decent cam port intake and TB, tune and that's basically it? Of course clutch and all.

as said.. all depends on what you intend to do with the car. power goals..where you want the power and so on. a stoker will make great torq but will hold you back(wear wise) if going for big boost with a turbo.

True true. I think I'll do just cam and head package. It should satisfy me

Same here. I spent $2000 on a cam, ported throttle body, ported intake manifold, and an upgraded valvetrain (did not port the stock 243 heads), and while I made an extra 41 RWHP, I only made an additional 9 RWTQ. The difference was barely perceptible.

If I instead put that money toward a 416 LS3 or 427 LSX stroker, I could have made at least 500 RWHP and 475 RWTQ. That would have been a massive improvement (as I'm sure Brian can tell you--night and day difference).

I've heard about problems with LS7 heads. I'd stick with an LS3 personally, but that's just me.

Wonder what accomodating the dry sump for the ls7 would wind up costing??? Relocate battery maybe, find suitable tank, make lines....
