Right now we are working on the passenger side motor mount install, once that's done, im going to work on the headers next, atleast loosely installing until the transmission goes back in.

But since I wont be doing the headers yet, or until next weekend, I wanted to see about wrapping them.. I don't have the wrap yet, but wants to see if anyone regretted not wrappin before installing them.

Since I bought the stainless steal ones with ORY, just sucks wont be able to see them if I do, but I know we will benefit some from wrapping..

I've wrap the primary tubes that are close to the starter. I don't do the whole tube, just about 8-10" worth.

I have wrapped whole headers before. They have their own pros and cons.

Ive watched a few videos and even seen on powerblock TV that temp difference with them wrapped and unwrapped..and it was a significant difference. Just a shame to have to cover some nice stainless headers..

Id just stick with ceramic coating and not deal with wrapping all together

Nope. I have all the carpeting in the car so if there was any heat from the floor boards I cant feel anything.

yea we do to, but even with the stock manifolds my wife was always complaining her feet would get really hot.. so plans for inside the car, to do some coating(lizard skin or similar) and then sound proof and then new carpet(which we already have) which should help a lot from original setup.

have them Jet-Hot coated and then you won't have to deal with wrapping them and the subsequent corrosion problems that arise from wrapping them...

That's because the passenger side cat was directly below her feet on your 99.

I'd also keep in mind that many header manufactures won't warranty your headers if you use header wrap on them.

What 99Bluz28 said, plus it seems to be a GM thing that even with the air/heat off, a little air still blows from the lower feet vents. Stick your hand under there and you can feel it. Turn the temperature **** to the cold setting and it won't be nearly as hot air blowing.

That has been the design for a good 30 years. Flow thru ventilation.

Just sold my z, but it had a 347, built bottom end, big cam, 1 7/8th" long tubes, 3/5" y and 4" all the way back.

I would sit in traffic for days idling with the a/c on and my wife nor I would never complain or feel heat in the floorboards for that matter. Full stock interior car.

I would never wrap them.

Long ago I had a set of mild steel headers on my Nissan and shortly after wrapping them, one of the primaries split about 6" from the head. Those were pacesetters so poor quality was in question to begin with. Regardless, I would not wrap my SLP's even if somebody offered to do it for free.

I've never felt any heat from the exhaust inside the car.

thanks everyone.. the wrapping question was geared more toward engine bay heat reduction, but I mentioned the floor heating since the stock exhaust would heat up under the driver side floor..

Now another question while we are on the subject of heat, while working under the car this past weekend, there was a small maybe 10" x 4" shield of some sort, I know it serves a purpose, but since the cats will not be in the same position anymore, do I really need to reinstall the piece?

I'd leave any heat shields in place if the exhaust is still routed in the same direction.

I know it's not the same, but I had a larger "shield" between the transmission and body that was always getting in the way on my 05 CTS-V. Pulled it off and never looked back with no issues except much easier access for future work. Did add a few strips of Dynamat though in discreet locations.

Just look around and see what components around the shield might be susceptible to heat damage. Usually a couple inches is suffice. I had a starter wire a little too close for my comfort so I wrapped IT with something to thermally insulate it.

And I also vote for non-wrapping the headers. If engine temps are the concern, coating is the way to go.

ok cool, yea the shields im referring to were located at the stock cat positions, since they are going away just seems like a waste to put back in if there is nothing there to shield..

but I will check regardless when I start putting back together
