Have a buddy putting a a 04 4l60e with a 3600 stall conv.in his 2700# (with him in it) RX7.
Just trying to figure out what the max hp he can get away with in a lighter car like his.
Also what cheap/easy upgrades (like a trans go shift kit etc.) that he can do that might help ?
I know th400 and glides but have stayed away from 700r4/4l60...LOL

+1 I have a 3600 with a 24k trans cooler with a trans go 2 shift kit. right about 430rwhp and it's still rock solid and takes a beating with no problems. HEAT is the biggest issue with the strength and longevity of the 4l60e. I've tried searching for an estimate HP number on the 4l60e and I came up with nothing. Results will vary and many factors come into play.

Installing the Transgo HD2 or Sonnax Performance Pack shift kits would be very good, but is not trivial and even error prone if you have not done it before.
If that is too complex, I would suggest installing just the Sonnax 4L60E-LB1 boost valve for $30. You only need to drop the pan and filter to replace it; it barely takes 5 minutes; you only need a pair of snap ring pliers.
This will increase line pressure across the board and increase the max pressure. (Tuning can also increase pressure, but not the max pressure.)
However, as stated, the MOST IMPORTANT step is to install a large aftermarket cooler. There are many threads on that subject.
