Rebuilding 10 bolt
Alright so i have a 2000 Z28 A4 camaro and i keep hearing about the 10 bolt always breaking. My goals are to have the car in the 400 to 425 hp range and i really dont see a point in getting a new rear end because i don tplan to take the car to the strip just keep it a street car. So my question is what can i do to re inforce the rear and prolong the life of it so it doesnt end up breaking anytime soon. The car has 130k mile on it and the rear is stock...so any improvements advice will be apreciated. Thanks

What's your rearend gear ratio ? What's your stall convertor ?
nothing's ever been PROVEN to strengthen a little 10 bolt, rearend girdle with carrier cap studs seems popular, solid spacer instead of the crush sleeve on the pinion is probably a help to keep the pinion from moving inward.
with you're having an A4 is the best for a 10 bolt,no shock loading like a M6.

Honestly I dont know what the gears are or the stall. I tried looking for the rpo codes but i guess they have been taken off because they are no where to be found, Im the second owner and the guy i bought it from said he hadn't modified it whatsoever.

Take your VIN to the dealership, they can run the information for yours.
Yours is most likely a GU5 3.23 like mine. I have a 2002 Camaro Z28 and I'm dropping the
10 Bolt and adding two more. You should be fine @ 400-430 with the standard 10 bolt. I dynoed an SS Camaro at UTI that was pushing 400+, and you have to realize
that that's all that car does every 3 weeks. No problems with it.
When I left it had around 120,XXX miles on it. We learned how to tune on it, so it's
been abused terribly.

Take it from a guy who went threw two in 4 years, don't . I only have a full bolt on LT1 putting 310rwhp 341tq. LS1 make close or more stock. Hell my buddy snapped the axles in his catback 97' Z28. I had a full rebuilt on mine both times. The first was a 3:73 posi upgraded axles and summit rear cover. Only had 53k when it let go. Fast forward two years a new rebuilt one I bought from FBody world with everything under the sun thrown on it. 4:10 gears, axles, c clip eliminator clip, TrueTrac Posi (30-spline), and 10 bolt cover. Cost him 1,107 for parts. Believe me I would love to go the cheapest option but for only a grand more I can have the piece of mind with a 12bolt and not have to worry about my rear for quite awhile.

I'm making about 460 to the wheels and am still on a 10 bolt. I haven't had any problems with it yet. The only time I really see them blow up is when someone puts a slick on them and launches hard. I ran mine at the track and basically babied it the whole time. If it doesn't see the strip it SHOULD be good.
