Default Stock F-body Tank--Hellmans Sump Writeup. Few questions.

My car is in Kentucky. Over the next few weeks/month. I will be installing a Hellmans kit into the bottom of the plastic tank.

I'll let you know how it turned out. I didn't really find much on anyone else doing this, but we will see how it goes.

Currently I have two in-tank 340's. I was considering putting a 255 inline in there, but I thought nah, I am going to put one more pump in and be done. I think a 4303 will get the job done. Total that should come out to 1,430LPH worth of pump. The reason being this car is making power on E85.

Currently I have a -8 Feed and -6 return. Is this still sufficient with this much volume/flow?

In on one

Where are you planning to mount this ? Do you still have a catback on the car ?

Mr hellman recommends in the very center. Obviously you never want to let it get below a 1/4 tank at the least. This pump will only come on past where the dual 340's fall short. Or vice versa i suppose.

I did catch that video of the XDP system. The hellmans flange is supposedly completely round instead of horseshoed like theirs is, and he said you can either cut it in half or notch it to get the same effect. I am going to try to do it without taking the tank off the straps.

To answer your question the car will soon have fender exit exhaust because street car.

I did this on my SRT-4. It worked great. I asked if anyone had done it here and no one had done it yet. I only needed 600hp worth of E85, so I did a single Bosch 044 with -6 supply and -4 return. I'd say you need something about double that size roughly.

I am glad to hear that it worked out. I learned about the kit from my good friend allout06 running his TT TA, but he never ended up doing it. hes running dual 450's which might be enough but I dont want to have to mess with fuel again so im getting it over with. 1400lph worth should be good for what im doing. here are a few updates before this thread goes dead for a while until i can get up there and find the time to install it and re do my lines from the current 8 feed and 6 return to a 10 feed and 8 return with a 12an feeding the magnafuel 4303.

and the flange is now actually pre notched which is nice.

do you know what size fitting threads into the sump? I'm wondering if a an fitting will thread in instead of the nipple fitting.

Mine was 1/2 NPT, so I bought a -8 AN to 1/2" NPT fitting and went AN from there on out. Hellman can do different threads and more than one port if you want.

yes.

1/2 npt to male 12an to filter then out of filter to pump with 12an line down to a -8 fitting and out with an 8 to 10 fitting all the way to the rails then y to the rear of each and return with an 8.

I am in the middle of going this route. I can tell you that the flat spot on the bottom of the tank of my 2000 is barely large enough for the Helman kit. There is a sort of rib on the outside that pushes it off center and curves on the inside that limit where the inside retainer can go. I have notched the gasket a bit and the sump a bit and it looks like it should seal ok, but it has been a bit of work.

I figured out that the flat spot on the 2000 tank is where the stock fuel pump bucket sits. Unfortunately, it is not quite the bottom of the tank. I didn't notice that when the tank was out and upside down.

I had to notch the sump and gasket, but it appears to be solid. I haven't tested for leaks yet ....

Don't use RTV, it is not gasoline proof.

I used whatever the brown stuff is that hellmans sent with it. I dont think hed send me something that was not gas proof. We leak tested it, it worked fine.

Pretty straight forward. cut a 3 inch hole. take out the sending unit. use the sump to mark your holes. drill them. have a buddy put in the flange and coat the sump gasket in sealant and tighten up the bolts with washers. Leak test checks ok put it back in. done.

drain

cut.

couple together after coating in sealer.

Leak check

When running this sump, did you run an internal pump as well? Any problems with cavitating the internal pump? I am trying to run a single walbro in the bucket, and a magnafuel 4303 external with the Beans diesel sump. Thanks for any help.

I did the bucket was hitting the bottom of that adapter ring so I had to move sump.
