Default Y-Pipe Scraping on 1" Lowered Camaro

So I bought my 2002 SS Camaro with LT's and it was already lowered an inch. The LT's scraped every speed bump and even scraped the ground every time I took the car out of first gear (even worse when I'm actually trying to launch it). I had the stock manifolds and cats put back on to pass smog, and the problem still persists. I can hear and feel it hit the ground every time, and to be honest, it is quite embarrassing when other people are in my car.

When I look under the car, I notice the Y-pipe is only about 2 inches from the ground. I just got SLP LM1 put in, and I noticed it was the Y-pipe that was all scraped up and even formed a hole in the piping, resulting in a small exhaust leak.

So my question is, is there an aftermarket Y-pipe I can put on that will be a little more snug? I plan on getting a new Y-pipe regardless, so I would like to know which is the best to get for a catback exhaust. I've been reading that motor mounts could be the problem as well. Any advice will help. Thank you!

Sounds like a mounting issue.

I have ARH long tubes and their Y pipe and only scrap on big speed bumps.

I just installed tsp LT's and y. My car is also lowered 1-1.5. Havnt taken it out yet but making a 2 hour trip in the mourning to re-dyno. And looking under the car it look very low. If it scrapes a bunch think I'm going to take off the 3" y and have an exhaust shop put on 2.5.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. I had to change the transmission mount when I first got the car, so I'm guessing the only thing it could be would be the motor mounts?

Both my SLP Y and the Jet-Hot Y before it, scraped at the
same -1" for me. Just lousy design. I've been thinking of
taking the Sawzall to the driver's side of the Y and getting
some band clamps so I can change the tuck-up for the
better.

I can understand if it scrapes on speed bumps and things such as that, but it just doesn't seem right for the y-pipe to be scraping everytime I take the car out of first gear. I don't have a sawzall, so I might just have to make a visit to the local muffler man.

I have a TSP y-pipe and not exactly thrilled with fitment. Scrapes on a lot of things so i'm going to a true dual setup sometime this month when I have the time to put it on. Have had a lot of people comment on how low it hangs on one side. This could be a error from the install since when I had the magnaflow I pipe shortened to fit tsp y pipe the guys did quite a horrible job and welded at an angle together. Almost looked like a v. Had it fixed shortly after the butcher job. But it scrapes a lot on a stock height car.

Mine only scrapes on speed bumps, swales and like that.

I don't know what you'd be scraping on, on level pavement
just by changing gears. I suspect it's more like pipe buzzing
sheet metal, or driveshaft (had both, over the course of
3 Y-pipe hangs, one of them twice). I'd look for any close
pass between Y/I pipes and any damn thing. Just run your
hand along the top side and anywhere it won't fit, you need
to shim out with loosened clamps, floor jack under the lowest
spot, and tighten up. I'd used 1x2 lumber pieces (3/4") for
convenience.

Just because most of it is stupid low, doesn't mean there
isn't some other spot that's stupid close.

So I've been reading around the forums and it seems as though other people are having a similar problem and the solution are the poly motor mounts. I'm thinking maybe the Y-Pipe was scraped just from speed bumps and such and the real noise is coming from the motor banging around? When I first got my car, I had to change the transmission mount, so I'm thinking maybe the motor mounts are shot as well. Any thoughts?

Kooks LT & ORY here. I'm lowered about 2.5 inches up front and 1.75 inches in the rear and I only scrape my exhaust on big speed bumps. Everything else like big dips in the road I just scrape my splash shield (big black plastic thing hanging down by the engine bay)

No problems here....after I readjusted it twice. First time was to low, second time was to high hitting floor. Third time was the best.
