Converter help
Drove my 5.3/th400/3.27 s475 Mustang around a bit and as I thought it would, the converter seems a bit loose. Car drives nice actually, but you don't feel a whole lot as far as shifts go. Its an ATI 10" Street Master, stall is around 3000 if I were to guess.
Is tightening these up an option or do you just get another converter? Trans Spec is just down the street from me, I could ask them. They would build me one for like 500-600.00, but I figure why not tighten this one??

3000 is not a high stall for a turbo build. What is done to the transmission? It could be the transmission shifting too soft, which is a much bigger problem than a slightly loose converter

Trans was rebuilt w/shift kit and came with the ATI converter. My neighbor gave both to me, and it was chirping 2nd gear when it was installed in his 68 GTO. He did have to go from a 3.23 rear to a 4.11 rear to get the convertor to "couple" better per his words. I'm running a 3.27 with a 28" tire FWIW.

3k is not much of a stall... Mine is 3500 stall with 3.27s (4l80e) and mine will shift hard when on it a bit 1-2, does if feel like you have a good stall? is it holding 3k or are you blowing through the converter? Also could be trans shifting soft. Mine was built to shift firm.

I know! I'd like to see where this gets me before dropping a grand on another converter.
ATI says these are rated for 800-1000 over stock. I'm going to lean on it a bit more this weekend. Hope the trans is good - neighbor said it was working great when removed.

A turbo converter will not stall much when driving. To see how close the converter is to working for you will require track passes. Turn the boost up to the range you want to run it at and see what rpm drop you have and how well it spools. The converter you have may work but you can never tell by just driving the car. I do prefer the PTC 9.5 when buying new but yours may work for you.

Dustin11 just happens to be the #1 dealer for PTC converters and specializes in turbo applications. If you get to the point where you want to try a new converter, he is certainly a great source to talk with. He spec'd me out a 9½" PTC converter for my '69 Nova that lets me cruise 70 mph on the interstate (TH-400) with transmission temps in the 160°F range. Then pull into the track, run some 5.7 1/8th mile times, and drive the 70 miles back home.
The two best components I added to take advantage of the power from my turbo drivetrain were the PTC converter and my BoostLeash controller.
