lt1 oil filter sizing
I have a 96 lt1 engine that I think had an oil cooler, but didnt have anything when I got the engine. I put on aadapter from another older engine that I had. The problem I have is the oil seal ring on whatever I need must have an inside diameter of at least 3 - 1/4 inches to clear the opening in the block. I havent found a filter that has more than just 3 inches ID. I am sure someone out there has done this . I have measured the old standard filter used on 350 chevrolet engines for years . It is only 3 inches ID

AFAIK there's only 3 options. No cooler, the F-body cooler (brings coolant over), and the B/D-body cooler (goes to radiator). No cooler and the F-body cooler use the same PH30 style filter. The B/D-body filters are different and I think a little bit smaller in diameter.
You can delete the cooler with an adapter (GM #3952302). I think there's also a Dorman part you can get over the counter at Pep Boys to do the same thing. All of the filter pads on the blocks are the same so you'd run a regular PH30 style filter.
