I can't speak much for it now, but back when I was there (2005-2007), there wasn't a huge car scene in the Abilene area (although there is Big Country 1/8 out on I-20. But the big thing is mudding and quads/dirt bikes). However, Dallas isn't too far (about 2 - 2 1/2 hrs away iirc), and Killeen is about the same distance (Ft Hood had a pretty big car scene).
