Default Turbo Auto Guys, Tire Height Question

Are most of you running 26's or 28's? I have a 3.42 rear, 4l60e, 3600SS stall. I already purchased 275/60/15 but after playing with calculators it seems my 3rd will be quite long. 153mph @ 6300rpm according to f-body.org/gears

Thinking of dropping down to 275/50/15's which would give me 142 @ 6300 and I of course could raise my RPM if I needed more MPH.

Its a 7475 Precision on a L33 with 317 heads and a Tick Stage 2 turbo cam running on pump.

That calculator doesn't seem to account for any converter slip, so definitely account for that. Depending on converter, I'm betting the 60 series is going to be a lot more on for what you're wanting to run through the traps.

Depends how much power you plan on making. you could creep up on 150mph traps with that L33

I plan on running 12-14 psi on regular pump no meth and adding more with some race gas for bigger street runs/track. Just don't want it to be too much of a dog on pump.

If you get a converter that works and want to leave in boost I'd go with a 28" tire, making your 3.42s more like a 3.23. It'll 60' better if the converter is working right on more tire.

This.

I have the Pro275 tires on my car, (not ran yet, soon) but that was one of the umpteen questions that Lane asked me when he spec'd my converter. PTC

Well my converter was not spec'd for me. It was an off the shelf Yank SS3600 that I picked up for a clearance type deal.

A taller tire will always hook better. More sidewall and more circumference.
I'll be running 30" radial slicks with 3.73 gears.

I ran a 28" tire with 3.25's last year. Have a 3.00 gear this year with the same tire. With the 3.25 I would hit fuel cut at 146 mph and trapped a best of 142 last year. My converter is a bit loose but helps to build boost at the line. Plus I don't want to spin my SBE much higher than the 6400 limiter. We will see how it does this year but I see a converter tightening in my future.

28s, 3.73s and a 6400 shift, seems to work well so far.

maybe i should go with a 3.25 gear. I'm hoping to go 150+ shifting at 6500. I'm forged though so i can spin it higher through the traps if need be
