Default VATS Bypassed, Now To Fix Correctly

Over the weekend I experienced the dreaded VATS/key/ignition lock failure and needed to flat bed the car home. After studying the many threads on the issue then applying what I learned I was able to determine the culprit is the ignition lock. It is not reading the pellet in the key. I would rather have the car work correctly and not use the bypass. Found the GM AC Delco ignition lock cylinder for a decent price and ready to purchase it.

My questions are:
Can I swap the tumbler from my old ignition lock to the new one?
If not then will I need a new key(s) cut?
How does the new ignition lock come as? Precut for new keys?
How does it know the proper resistance of the key?
If the new ignition lock has a different resistance, I get new key(s) made with matching resistance, will the BCM figure out what to do?
Resistance relearn for new ignition lock and keys?

I do have the Helms manual for the proper instructions on how to replace the ignition lock but I did not find the answers to the questions I asked above.

Any assistance is appreciated.

Lock cylinder comes with key template so answer is...new key(s) needed.
