To do it properly and reliably, it should be built by a professional who knows the proper internal mods to make them live. A general repair type transmission shop you can find on any main road in town isn't what I would recommend, but rather people who specialize in it, have put in a lot of time and effort to research, R&D and understand the trans.
We are big 4L80E specialists ourselves and fit the aforementioned bill quite nicely, but we're not the only ones out there who do it.
We do do it pretty well though , if you're interested in buying one from us give us a shout. We also have good deals on trans and converter combos.

I would think a nice built 4l60 would be good. An 80e conversion is nice but will cost more and require more effort. Ask me how I know lol. The 1st gear ratio is nice in the 60. If you don't plan on going past that power level that's my vote.

I run a $150 craigslist 4L80e with a transgo HD2 kit I put in and an FTI converter. The problem with 60s at that power level is (most) will blow through 3-4 clutch packs at a pretty steady rate. I know some sponsors have made them last, Sonnax has a smart input drum to make them last too but last I checked that alone is 5 bills. After I added up the prices on the sonnax drum and billet shafts my decision was easy. Personally I like the gear ratios in the 4L80e wayyyyy better than the 60.

Get an 80 built by North Texas Converter. I am a happy customer here. They know their **** and will set you up for a good price. Like said, a 60 will not live at 700hp, no way no how unless you invest a metric **** ton of money into it. Get an 80, spend some money now, then be done.

One for you too also coming up!
Here's a rough price breakdown for an 80E swap, using our prices as a baseline reference. I wrote this up just for this exact question: http://northtexasconverter.com/?page_id=8242
Some shops will piece it all together for you and set it all up. We do that for anyone who requests it, though it can be cheaper for a lot of people to piece it together themselves bit by bit. Just depends on how long you can wait for the parts and how much hassle you do or don't want to deal with.
