hey guys, I am just about finished installing a yank 3600 stall converter in my 98 WS6. My question is am I going to have to take the car in and have the computer retuned for the tranny to work properly. Change shift point, idle rpm ect..?

I plan to have the car dyno tuned sometime this summer when I have everything complete, so I don't really want to have to do it twice. This is the first time I've put a high stall converter in a car so its kinda new to me.

It should drive fine with little to no issues. Your shifts will feel very soft now, and your shift points could probably use a little tweaking but it will get you around fine.

i dont know much about them but search "shift extentions". i read that over a 3300 stall the pcm can feel like its slipping but not sure what computer mod fixes that.

I've never personally thrown a fault code on WOT for shift extensions, but part throttle can be tricky because lots of times rpms don't drop after the shift, and the computer deems this a non-shift.

Yes. You will want to bump up your line pressure for firmer shifts, raise your shift points, decrease your shift times, possibly eliminate third gear lock-up, adjust your lock-up speed, and tune out trouble codes that will throw the trans into limp mode.

But you will probably be ok waiting a couple of months and driving it with the stock tune before you get it dyno tuned.

Yeah you'll be ok to drive around. I just wouldn't recommend going WOT.

Get it tuned asap though, it makes a world of difference driving

I did not get a tune for my ss3600 until a month or so after breaking it in. I gave it hell before a tune no issues. After I got the tune I couldn't even tell a difference. Just make sure you break it in. I think its 150 miles.

There's nothing wrong about going WOT without a tune. It's not like you have to adjust fueling and spark tables for the new converter.

You should at the very least adjust the up/downshift and lockup tables. Line pressure is also a good thing to play around with.
