Default What do you guys think about this setup?

I decided on an H/C setup, but I'm not sure what kind of rwhp numbers I'd be slapping down, or 1/4 mile times.

I'm gonna go with (I'm pretty sure anyways)

TR230 cam
with either the Patriot Stage II heads, or the LS6 ported style
Spec Stage 3 clutch
Moser 12-bolt with 4.10's
Hooker Coated LT's
True duals with Sweet thunder 18 inch chamberd dumps
SFC
and STB

What do you guys think? Of course I'll have all the needed hardware for my H/C install with studs etc. What kind of rwhp numbers should I shoot for, and what kind of 1/4 mile times would i be capable of? Thanks guys

430rwhp/400rwtq or so, the car will be capable of 11's.

I know everyone thinks they are a damn good driver, but with a good driver (I'm not the best, but by far not the worst) should I be capable of shooting for mid 11's? Of course with sticky tires..

I've done alot of re-search on H/C packages' and it looks like alot of people are happy with the TR230 cam. My car wont be a daily driver.. just weekends only so I want somthing that puts down some good power all the way through the rpm range, plus of course i want it to be lopey as hell when I'm at a stop light. Will that cam be pretty lopey at idel?

Sounds like a pretty good setup to me. Yea the TR230 will be very lopey at idle especially through TDs. Are you planning on having your car tuned after all these mods?

you should put down 450 at the wheels. if its a weekend car get my cam. it the new one from thunder, the cam has already gotten one car in the 10's i think coach is cam only right, and we are working on getting 2 more in the 10's now.

Yeah I would recommend stepping up on the cam size, I am currently running a 238/242 and the last 2 track visits my car won't see an 11 second timeslip any more. What car will this be going in? Are you setup with suspension, tires, safety equimpment, etc?? Would you say your car is a PIG?

If your going to use a reverse split cam, make sure there are no exaust restriction. In the heads or the actual exaust. Personally, I like thunder, but I hate reverse split cams. I'd call there neighbor in LA, Futral Motorsports. They have a nice FMS 230/232 that might better suit your needs. I don't think you'll need a cam as big as some of the others are mentioning either. Maybe if your car had stock heads, but for aftermarket heads, there shouldn't be a need for that much cam. JMHO.

Well now that I've done a little re-search last night, it looks like the guys that are running the same setup are pushing 410-420 rwhp and running 11.80's+. My goal's for the car are to run mid to low 11's with over 450rwhp and with the setup I came up with above doesnt look like its gonna put me there. I could do some weight reduction, but since its 1 of 19 Sunset Orange Firehawks made I would rather not mess with yanking stuff off. I wont have any extra $$$ for suspension mods so those will have to come with time. I will go with SFC's and a STB to help stabalize things, along with a roll bar and a drive shaft saftey loop so I will meet our tracks guidlines. Now remember this car will be driven on weekends, and maybe once or twice a week to work. As long as the car will barley run at idel and not die on me at every stoplight, I wont have any problems with a huge cam. Any suggestions?

i made more than 430 without heads. mine dont die and is suprisingly drivable
with heads you would be 480 range probably running low 11's with stock weight.
and the tr230 would get you around 450 with heads.

Get the T-REX, it seems like the cam you're looking for.

But from what I understand about the T-rex is that it works only in your higher rpm right? So if i want alot of low end power would i want to steer away from that cam? Here is the main top 3 things I'm looking for in a cam.

1. VERY lopey sound
2. mid to low 11 second pass's
3. Low end grunt (maybe pull the front wheels MAYBE)

Dude this cam produces all 3 with 4:10 gears or better in an M6 and it sounds like a dragster. Coach just went 10.98 with his auto on a hot Texas day and halfa$$ tuning.

But that is a RACE car that weighs 3200 with him in it, a HUGE stall and 5.xx gears in it. I don't think it's fair to compare that to a car someone would actually drive.

Man I cant wait till i get everything started. What about my bottem end, or t-56? Will i have to worry about any of that with either the TR230 or the Trex? I do want this car to be reliable considering I'll probably drive it 3-4 times a week if that.

I drive mine as a daily driver. Gomer I understand all of you points, but there is a secret weapon Trans Am that's about to shock alot of people with this cam so all the excuses can be eliminated. Oh and it does have stock heads & bottomend. Last of all no not my T/A.
