Default Stock 2000 LS1 Camaro VS IS250 or IS350, not sure.

So the other day I was cruising the street back home from work. I have a 2000 SS complete bone stock 6 speed with SLP lip and Flowmaster 80 series muffler (trash). Cut springs in the front (1 coil) lowered 2 inches in the front and heater hose mod in the back with 17x9.5 ZR1 245/40R17 in the front and 17x11 ZR1 315/35R17 Nitto NT555 in the back. There was a white IS250 or IS350 behind me, not sure which one it was because it was de-badged, and looked like the guy had something going because his car didn't look stock from the outside (had black wheels and sort of lowered). Came to a red light and he pulls next to me. I didn't pay attention to him because I just figured "Oh this guy is just trying to get on the freeway, alright cool." So the light turns green and I ride first gear to maybe about 3000 RPMs, I can see from the corner of my eye the IS trying to pull ahead, so I didn't shift into second. Then he floors it before I do and jumps half a car before I can safely say "game on!". I shift into 2nd gear at 6000 RPM and he jumps to a full car. End of second I shift into 3rd and he is STILL retaining his lead (he was neither pulling and I wasn't catching). Third gear coming to and end and he slows down to make the turn onto the freeway.

So, this was my first street race loss, I guess you can say, even though it really wasn't an organized or fair race, and he jumped half a car before I went at it. I wasn't satisfied because I'm left wondering if my top end would have reeled him. I wanted to follow him and get a better race (with honks or something at least) but I just continued to drive straight and went home.

Have any of you guys raced these cars before? Again, I'm not sure if it was an IS250 or IS350, stock or modded, I don't know. I think I read somewhere that bone stock IS350's can run mid 13's and trap 104ish MPH. They dyno at about 260 average horsepower. That 1/4 time is probably the reason why neither of us were pulling ahead. But anyways, just looking to see if any of you guys have had experience with these cars.

Wish there were videos of stock LS1 vs stock IS250/350 somewhere.

Should have jumped on the freeway with him and got your answer. We have all gone way past our intended destinations for a race. LOL. Good 1st "race" man. Having a SS, there will be more where that came from. Good hunting.

Sounds pretty accurate if it was a 350. They're pretty damn quick, enough so that if he jumped the lead before you even got into it, that'd be all he'd need. Odds are into 4th you would have started to reel him in, but slowly. Good run, next time make the first move lol!

Ran a girl a while back that had a G37 sedan in my 392. It was a fun race gave her the hit and blow her doors off. She stayed in it to about 140 mph though lol. She was just a laughing.

is350... they are much quicker than the specs would have you believe. From recent experience I wouldn't be surprised to see a ridiculously close race with the is350 having the advantage (gearing, traction and auto ftw).

Agreed, IS350, the 250's are slower than Cobalts experiencing ignition switch issues!

Just feel good knowing that is350 doesn't have many options to make it much faster.

The AWD IS350's are a bit slower because of the weight. The newer RWD IS would definitely give you a run for your money - I work at Lexus and have driven them. They're fairly quick and fun cars. As far as mods go, I don't know how well they respond to bolt-on's. I imagine pretty well since the engines are quite efficient - over 300 hp - and breathing through restrictive orifices. I guess you'll never know if you would have reeled him in or not.

Be cautious from a dig.
I've seen Vs lose to IS350s because they couldn't get out of the hole right.

From a roll, you got him covered, IMO.

I always leave it in competitive mode. Slip clutch at 2000-2500 and it straight hooks.

The 350s are really really deadly out of the hole. Slight wheelspin, and gone. Geared very well.
