As soon as I put oil in the tranny, it starts leaking through oil pan gasket (new) real bad.
Should the oil level go above that gasket at all? I think I didn't overfill though...
I also noticed that my oil pan mating surface is not flat, looks like spots around bolt holes are stretched, is that OK?
Thanks!

Are you using a cork gasket or a different transmission pan gasket? If you are using a cork gasket it is probably overtightened but they are junk anyways. I would definitely recommend using anything besides a cork gasket because they leak easily and are prone to doing so.

The one I reused was cork, and after reassemling tranny it leaked some. Then I got some Duraprene but it was hard as wood and leaked immediately.
I've flattened pan surface as far as I could and will get another cork tomorrow.
Main question is, is this pan gasket under oil level or not? I guess so but need confirmation. Maybe I'm overfilling badly and thus pan gasket leaks?

the level is right around where the pan meets the case, maybe a little higher, esp if the converter drains back a little after sitting
get the stock GM gasket, they can be reused many times
if the steel pan is not flat, it will leak-if the area around the holes is raised due to over tightening, support the pan and knock them down level
if the pan is to bad, replace it
