Default 5.3l mods?

Hey guys,

question for everyone. Im building a '74 chevy luv truck. Rightnow it has a stock 5.3l with a 4L60E trans that i picked up. The truck runs good but i want to change some things on the motor. Now, like alot of others i am on a strict budget. So, i was thinking about doing some minor head-porting along with a cam swap and a different intake manifold. Heres my issue...im not sure exactly wut type of parts/setup to go with? Is there a website or something that deals with this that i can research? Or does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Again, all i wanna do is a simple cam swap, head porting, and maybe an intake. Thanks!

I love the old chevy LUVs and I bet that 5.3 makes it fun! I think your on the right track with head work and a cam swap to make more power. I would suggest calling a few cam companies and telling them what you have and what you want to accomplish, bet they'll have some good suggestions as far a cam selection goes.

Very neat project, love those LUV trucks! Martin, our in-house valvetrain expert would love to chat with you about a camshaft upgrade and help you start to blueprint your build. Give him a call at 336-719-0599 or shoot him an email at support@tickperformance.com - you'll be glad you did!

I have a 5.3 L33 in my AMC Spirit. Tested with the stock DOD cam and went 10.98 @ 120 mph.
I am in the process of installing a Comp Cams XR 281HR-12
I have a LS6 intake and headers Holley fuel injection.

I have a great 215/215 112 camshaft that I like to use in these applications. Makes great torque, drives great and has a mild idle to boot that still sounds like a camshaft is installed.

If you know your way around a sanding roll you can easily do some modifications to the cylinder heads that will pick up the power nicely as well.
