Default B&M pro stick question

Well, more questions from a newb..

When I bought the car back in Feb it came with a th350 and a b&m pro stick shifter. The car shifted from Park, R, N, 3, 2, 1... and The gate plate that is on it is for a three speed, reverse pattern.

I just had a 700r4 put in yesterday, full manual reverse valve body.. and the car shifts Park, R, N, 1, 2, 3.. and I can't shift to 4th because the gate plate will not allow it.

I called B&M and they only make a forward pattern gate plate and not a reverse pattern plate for the 4 speed gate plate.

My question is why does it matter? If the plate that's in there now works before and after the transmission swap, why can't I use the plate for the 4 speed forward pattern?

Thanks for any help in advance.

I had a friend to notch the plate itself to achieve 4th gear. He done the same swap you did.

Did he have to do anything else besides notching it? I thought about doing the same but I wasn't sure if that would work or not.. so I went ahead and ordered the 4 speed plate.

I don't remember how exactly he done it, I know it was trial and error though. Works fine..
