Default C5 ZO6 vs Ford GT

Best race I've had so far. This was my C5 ZO6 against a modified Ford GT in the Chicago 1/2 Mile Shootout event last weekend. Owner was an awesome guy and let me check his car out and had the chance to sit in a Ford GT for the first time. Very close race.

Damn, sick Vette, that thing sounds amazing. That fella in the GT was a non-shifting fool!

Good runs.

sw07 rolls with some guys who trap that in the 1/8th.

Sounds like he's shifting fine in the windshield view where I can hear his exhaust. I was holding my ground, but once he grabbed 5th gear it was all over. The 4th in the ZO6 pulls long and hard under full boost. He grabbed that 5th gear and lost his forward momentum and I just walked right on by. I don't know much about Ford GT gearing, but apparently that 5th must really be stretched out for high speed runs. The 5th gear in the ZO6 is super close to 4th, so it still pulls extremely hard all the way to redline.

I wasn't trying to take away from your run at all bud, sorry if it came off that way. It just appeared that he wasn't shifting quickly as he lost lots of ground each shift. Sick Vette.

No biggie, lol. The guy he referenced was talking about cars that trap 120 in the quarter being "slow". Evidently the average car in his group traps 130+.

If my car group was 130+ I'm sure 120 would seem pretty slow to me too

I didn't take it negatively at all, the run is what it is.

I added the shifting comments because I raced a supercharged C7 Vette as well. My runs were ultra consistent at 154 first pass, followed by 157, 157, 157. He was running 147-153 all day...so I would have most likely won if I didn't screw up. Unfortunately, he didn't get a clean run in our race and he accidentally but it in 5th instead of 3rd...then for some reason stuffed it in 4th instead of 3rd. He rode out his pass in 4th, and I screamed by him like he put it in park. It was fun to race the car, but bittersweet in that it wasn't a clear nor fair run. Those C7's just rip out of the hole though. Insane!

Anyway, the Ford GT guy probably shifted as slow as I do. I'm slow on the launch and shift medium fast. Still running on the stock rear diff and trans, and I have no intention to break them any time soon. I'm being ultra careful in my runs that day, due to a clutch engagement issue. Popped up on the drive from the hotel to the runway. It grinds slipping from a standstill. Once engaged, it's perfectly fine...as you can see. Since I had to drive back 3hrs home that day, I eased out of the hole and once the rear was loaded up and the clutch fully engaged...I just stomped the pedal.

Nice. It's definitely a good running car. What exhaust do you have, it gave me a halfy lol.
