Default Building log manifold from headers?

Hey all, i have a set of old pacesetter 1 3/4 headers from my old NA LS1. In the interest of saving money and the A/C, as well as having fun, I want to fab my own turbo set up. I was thinking of cutting the primaries about 2 inches or so from the flange and welding them into some 2.5 pipe with a T4 flange somewhere up high , as to not need any kind pump for oil return. Can this be done and work well, or is it not a good idea? I would have the whole this coated, to retain heat and resist rusting and such. Not sure if single or twin set up yet, still brain strorming.
