Why would new A/C idler be wobbling?

Why would new A/C idler be wobbling? My stock (plastic) A/C idler pulley had started screaming at nearly all RPM's, so I replaced it with a newer, metal style pulley. I made sure the back plate was seated all the way down, and slid the outer plate around until it felt like it seated in place. I haven't replaced the belt yet, but if I spin it by hand, I can see an obvious wobble.
The stock pulley, despite it's noise and the bearing seal being partially melted, spun like butter.
