98 Trans am 10 bolt build abs/tc question?

Default 98 Trans am 10 bolt build abs/tc question?

I have a 1998 Pontiac Trans am ls1 m6 car that is mostly stock. I want to beef up my 10 bolt differential, and I have been looking at Eaton Truetrac differentials. What I don't understand is what effect that will have on my 4 channel abs or traction control as far as keeping it all working as intended?

No matter what you do to the 10 bolt rear it will still be weak. Best bet would be to save for a 12-bolt or a 9 inch rear. I know they are expensive but in the long run you will only have to do the job once. I know thats probably not what you want to hear considering its about 4 grand to do the swap. Hope this helps.

Here is the answer to you question.
Traction control is sensed through your backing plates and reluctor wheels on the ends of your axles. No matter what you do internally to your differential your traction control wont know the difference. Eaton tru trac's are great units. You can stud the main caps, add a girdle and get a performance gear set. I've built plenty of them this way.

Yes, a 12 bolt and a 9 inch are WAY better. But for those not able to throw 3-4K into a unit then this is a cheap alternative.

In addition to what dgcustumz suggests I would install a solid pinion spacer as well.

I added this kit to my 10 bolt to strengthen the axles housings from flexing.

Note:

An a4 auto will shock your 10 bolt far less than a six speed. That said, there are other factors to consider as well - such as tires you will use and how much traction they provide.

Also, the higher the rear end ratio, the thinner the teeth on gear set - 3.23 teeth will be thicker than 3.73 or 4.10 and less likely to break.

DG hit the nail. I've always thought the single best thing for a 10 bolt is fresh bearings........and a solid pinion spacer, rear cover, and aftermarket gears are icing in the cake.
