Default Can just the AC clutch be replaced?

Like the title says, I think my ac clutch or compressor has gone out and was wondering if it's possible to just replace the clutch.

I had the AC clutch-only replaced on my '02. At that point I didn't have time to mess with it myself, so I had the dealer do it and therefore I cannot speak on the exact details of this job. But the stock compressor was retained.

I had this done back in '07 or '08. I remember that the part was much cheaper than the labor, and total cost was about $350-ish I think. Of course, this was all GM pricing since it was a dealer.

AC clutch for an LS1 f-body is 54 bucks at rockauto, so yeah it can be replaced by itself, but if I where you I would look into what all has to be done to replace it, if you have to evacuate the system and pull a vacuum and all that, or if you pay someone to do it you may just be saving the cost difference between the clutch and whole compressor in the added labor of replacing the clutch.

Its easily done with a puller thats rented from Oriley auto or Autozone. Its as simple as screwing in the threads on the puller and pulling it off. installs in reverse order. I removed mine due to squealing when not engaged. I simply sanded off all the rust n crap between the two surfaces and blew it out with compressed air.Worked like a charm from that point on. Got my money back from renting the tool and it cost me No $ at all. Can be done it less than 2 hours. No A/C evac or anything removed necessary. I only removed the front cover thats keyed and held by the compressor shaft, not the clutch thats held on by a snap ring and rides on a bearing. I would guess thats not much more difficult to remove though.
