Default 4L80 output shaft?????

What is the length of the 2wd bolt on yoke output shaft from rear of case to end of shaft? I have a 2000 with the drum e-brake on it and want to know if the early 2wd housing will work on it. I have a 96 4l80 in the car now, so the slip yoke is not a problem. I just need to know where to get the housing and output if needed to put this one in.

Also, any upgrades you guys think I should install while I'm in there? Car went 10.90 @140 with a 2.08 60', so I'm getting a bigger stall and either a TB or a VB w/engine braking and duel calipers on the rear for foot braking.
Thanks for any info

OK, does anyone have a source for all the different output shafts and housings for the 4l80's?

I don't see why you'd need a new output shaft. All of the 2wd tail housings are the same

I can see why you will need a different output shaft.

You will need an output shaft and tailhousing.

There are at least 5 variations of 4L80E output shafts and 2 different tailhousings.

Sure as ****, good eye Jake! I didn't even think about the "motor home" tailhousings. I'm impressed Vinny, even in the core yard you don't come across those too often.

Okay, so let me get this straight. You currently have a 4L80E in the car but are swapping it for another? Did you burn up the '96?

Obviously no one would know better than him, but you might want to inquire with Jake to see if he has any fully splined output shafts in stock.

Yep! burnt it up. Stood on it at 60mph, it downshifted out of 4th to 2nd and shook like wheel hop, but it never wheel hops. The shutter was in the tranny. After that I had no 4th, like natural when it shifted into 4th. All other gears work fine. I need a bigger stall and brake, it would only 60' a 2.08! But it went 10.90@140mph. I'm thinking the D3 brake from Jake would be great, but I would like to auto-x it so I'm undecided on a TB or a VB w/engine braking. Either way I am going to do all the good stuff to the 2000 tranny and put it in when I get the new stall. I read that you are not supposed to run them hard in 4th, and I always just left it in 4th and let the tcu shift at 5400.

Our transbrake valve bodies have engine braking.
When launching with any kind of power and using a 4L80E, the 3rd gear position is preferred. You can WOT shift to 4th and put a huge amount of power through the 4th gear clutches, but it is easier on the trans to launch in D3 not OD/D4.

Well you just made my day! If I install your D3 brake and leave shifter in 3rd and use my paddle shift I will have engine braking? And the car made 720hp at the tire missing from 3800 to 5200, I had the safe tune too fat for the stock coils. oops!
