Default Help me pick a gear ratio

I have a 404 ls2 w/ ~550 rwhp, i have an m6 w/ 3.42s. I will likely be getting a ford 9" soon. Redlines ~6800.

I can't decide on a good axle ratio. I think i will do e/t street on the street and maybe a real slick for the strip. I may do a little boost in the future.

I want to be able to hook on the street and get a decent launch without just spinning all over. Any advice?

IMO, with stock height tires (25.5"-26.25") 3.90 gears .
With taller tire like 27"-28" then 4.10 gears.

If you plan on boost in the future you might wanna stay with the stock gear ratio

If you stay at 550 rwhp and run a 28" tall tire, 4.11 as previously been posted is what I would go with too. Once you add more power down the road you can quickly run out of gear, so you'll have to make a choice. What is optimum for now or what will also work in the future. What type of power adder you go with in the future will also determine what gears to go with. In my opinion a 9.0 second street/strip blower car on 28's generally does well with 3.70 gears, same scenario with a turbo car does well with 3.42's. Bob
