Default Help identifying what is inside this powerglide

Hi everyone.

I was hoping someone could identify what is going on in my powerglide. I am attaching a picture set. I went to change out the transmission gasket and filter, and found what appears to be a solenoid inside the pan.

If you look at "A" in the pictures, you'll see the part in question. I traced the non-grounded wire and found it had been cut, and so it doesn't seem like it would be operational.

You'll also notice a solenoid "B" which is the transbrake solenoid that is connected to the shifter button.

Can anyone help me explain what solenoid "A" is about?

Thanks very much.
