Question a 315 vs. a really good 275

At first i was thinking about putting on 315's on the back, but funds are kind of low right now since im buying a trex cam very soon. I figured getting a really good 275/40/r17 tire would be equally good for handling and traction. I was gonna go with the NITTO 555R's. My car is driven on the average 50miles a week(if that) and never see's bad weather. So would i really benefit that much from putting on 315's in handling and traction compared to a really good 275?

I would guess that BFG DR's in 275 would hook better than 315 Nitto DR's. I think 315's now are more for looks than acutal traction.

I have 275 Nitto DR's in the front and 315 DR's in the back on my Firehawk. And let me tell you these tires handle like crazy and traction is excellent, can not even break them loose. I am actually thinking about selling my tires for different tires. As the tread life on the Nitto's are not good for my daily driver.

do you think its because you have 315's in the back or because its the actual tires regardless of size?

taller tires with sidewall are the only way to hook. small sidewall is a joke and very very very few people can hook with them.

Default Nittos DR all around

To answer your question about DR's all around. Other people too have used them for road racing. I just like to have the same compound tires all around. Just because it says DR, it does not matter. Nitto's have one of the stiffest sidewalls for a Drag racing tire so as a result they handle pretty good.

Nitto 555R's (275 width) have treated me well, even with my T-Rex cam. Tread life is great, wet handling is as nice and they are fairly cheap. If I am going to go with a 315 tire I rather wait until I have that much more power and buy a set of really nice rims.

Nitto 555R's work well.

For handeling obviously wider is better, and with a street compund tire the same would hold true. Plus a regular z rated tire will last longer. Unless you are looking to dead hook for dragracing, I would go with 315's. But the tires wont fit on the same rim as the 275's
