Stock 2014 5.0 auto vs zl1 auto.
Hey guys, I know I will catch flak for this but I gotta post it and ask some questions while I am at it. OK so Saturday I raced at San Antonio Raceway the d.a was around 1400 most of the night 1490 (starting) to a best of 1380. My wife was racing her axle back only 2014 auto. She got a 12.96 first run, second of 12.91 and best of 12.85 before the track went to crap and gave her a 13.1. Well when she ran the 12.85 she was running against a stock auto zl1, now the driver was pretty large 6+ feet well over 250 likely 300. They both has reaction times around .12 but the zl1 ran a 12.99 to my wife's 12.85. I cannot imagine that this is normal for the stock autos, but then again I have not seen many stock zl1's at the track. My question is, was this race to be expected with a heavy driver or was something likely wrong with the zl1 (heat soak etc.) The track was hooking pretty well, I managed a 12.45 @115.6 with only cold air intake off road x and tune. I am even on Continental dws winter tires. So again what gives?

ZL1s are crap at the drag strip.
Which is really odd, because I've seen a FEW stockish CTS-V sedans run 12.2@119 but have yet to see a ZL1 in the low 12's at the drag strip. Most are 13.0@111-114

I have seen the exact same thing, I was pretty surprised by it, was expecting something different from the ZL1, not that there not bad *** cars, they just seem to struggle at the track for some reason

I'm not sure I'd say that. Looking at the slips the zl1 had a crap 60ft but was chasing her down in the end. Smaller driver in the zl1 it would have probably been different.

This sounds right. Our local track has regular DAs of 3500. Last time out i saw a white ZL1 with full exhaust, cai, upper and lower pulley, on Mickey Drag Radials running 11.90s. Stock i could see a high 12

The ZL1 puts out a lot of torque off of idle which can be hard to put down without a good tire. Also they may have had the traction control which cuts pretty hard from WOT. Heat soak prob didn't help that trap either. My 12' CTS-V would cut so much power once it spun it would nose dive

ZL1 in need of driver mod.... just because it's an auto doesn't mean anything. I watched a guy in a bonestock C7 Auto run low 13's @113 all night long at atco even with me EXPLAINING how to launch the car he would Fuggg it up every time.. First it was him shifting with the paddles then it was rolling out slower than i walk then it was spinning forever. why wasn't the MPH higher? because he panicked somewhere in the run... Auto means NOTHING if you can't drive...
Go on tune time's facebook, to the track rentals and watch ZL1's fly. HC cars in the 10's @125 with stock wheels on a Nitto Full weight.
Or go in the ZL1 section and read. stock autos are 11 second capable with good driver.
I got my stock 1,000 mi TBSS to run numerous 13.5's and even into the 13.4's @102+ how many stock TBSS's have you seen do it? My 500 mile bonestock Grand Prix GXP 13.6 @102+ FWD nightmare to launch and that was only my second time to the track with that car.. Just goes to show you the driver is the key all else being equal. (HP v weight v gearing/traction v DA)
Sorry rant over...
