Default 4L80E manual shifting

I know with the stock trans controller for a 4L80E will over ride you when your in 1st and shift for you(not sure if this is true though, doesnt make sense that the trans would keep you from having full control. this is just what my shop teacher told me). is there a contoller out there that lets you manually shift and also lets you put it in drive and cruise?

First, I will let a 4L80E expert confirm or correct me, but I believe that if you leave the trans in D1, it will stay in 1st gear no matter what. D2 will then let the computer select 1st or 2nd gear according to its tune. Similarly D3 lets the computer select 1st, 2nd or 3rd.
Yes, there are aftermarket controllers that will do what you want, but figure on $700+.

The real question is why do you want such manual control? I can see it for road course racing by little else.

Many stock tunes will shift with the shifter shaft in low. It can be tuned to not shift.

There are controllers out there that will let you manually shift. Such as the PCS Controls for one. You can also modify your existing control or use a full manual VB.

In some calibration files there are tables for Manual 1st 1->2 shift...

for some vehicles this table is set to allow this shift at WOT, while for other vehicles it is set to inhibit this shift.
