Default Valve Spring Height and Spring Pressure

Just wondering, how many of you guys just swapped out the springs when you changed cams, and how many checked the valve spring installed height and seat pressure?? I'm getting different answers from different people. I would think you would want someone to set the heads/springs up on a cam install, but I bet a bunch of people are just throwing them on without shimming or even checking. Anybody wanna fess up???

Sure did.

I ended up going with a .100 longer set of valves to get the installed heighth we wanted.

most people don't check......they just throw (it in) and go.......

I checked what my spring height would be on this new engine I'm building and found out I needed a +0.100" retainer to get my required install height. Its easy to check (get the little valve spring height checker) and you should always check when you do a new setup (change springs).

Anybody else just put the springs on themselves without getting them shimmed and/or set up professionally??

I just threw on my comp 918s without checking. This was a typical "gonna try and have the cam / springs changed in 6 hours" type of install.
