1998 vs. 1999 + Fuel Pump MODULE
The fuel pump on my '98 Z28 gave out last year after a long road trip. Short on funds, I swapped out the module from the sending unit with a low mile module I had laying around from a 2002 Z28. Other than a very small "spout" that the '98 didn't have, the modules looked the same.
This got the car running, but not very well. It seemed to get gradually better, going from barely holding an idle to being able to drive around the block at lower RPMs. After a short stint of improvement, it will no longer crank at all. It still primes and is definitely managing to get fuel to the rails, but I can't be sure it's enough pressure until I test it this week.
What I'm really wondering is what the differences between the two are.
I realize the sending unit and tanks are completely different, but what about the module itself? What differentiates a 1998 from the latter years? I noticed even the kits from Racetronix sell year specific modules.
What would have made it run fine for a bit, then give up again? Could it be because I used a module for an '02 in a '98?
