Pontiac GTO 2004-2006 - GtO vs Mach 1

My Bro-in-law brought me is latest edition of muscle mustangs & fast fords. Ther is a shootout with the GTO vs Mach 1. The Ford guys seemed very impressed with the GTO. The drags times were almost identical 13.51 for the GTO -- 13.47 for the Mach were the best times. This got me to thinking, the GTO is a M6 while the Mach is an M5 so the goat would have to hit 4th right before the line right? This would cause it to lose a least 1/10th I would think.

The ford guys also said in the article that they have hours and hours behind the wheel of the Mach and it was there first time with the GTO. Also an Advantage. They said that the cars were so closly matched that driver skill would win out in a side by side run. I'm not whining about the Mach being a tick faster. Just a few thoughts. What do you guys think?

I read the main thing that made the Mach just as quick, was the fact the Mach has a lesser curb weight. Also I think the Mach has a solid rear which would help with launching, I know the GTO has a IRS. The Editors did not bash it either, they said they loved the interior and say is probably the strongest GTO ever. See they are not as biased as most people think ;) . They have said on numerous occasions they respect the LS1 and how much torque it has down low. I think all this competition is great, It will be just like the 60's again. Before you know it Chevy will start bringing out cool stuff,and Chrysler will probably make some more performance vehicles. It will be the muscle car war of the new millenium, and we are right in the middle of it :D :drive:
