I have both. I haven't exhausted the capabilities
of either one. It's my impression that EFILive has
more loggable PIDs identified, but both have the
"most often used" ones covered. EFILive has the
ability to define "custom PIDs" but I have no clue
how to use that feature. Any analysis I do, I do
in Excel anyway. Both will log 24 PIDs at 10/sec.
I think there may be some narrower, faster option
in EFILive but haven't ever bothered to check.

The one big difference is the bidirectional controls,
I have the Pro version with those and they seem
very handy for the fix-it-yerselfer. HPTuners says
these are coming, but will be a $99 add-on ("Pro")
logger feature, just as EFILive does it.

Both camps seem to be staying busy with feature
adds, etc. and I know HPTuners is listening to the
feature requests they get, as is EFILive.

I lent my mechanic my EFILive cable & CD the other
month and haven't had to go get it back, which
may indicate to you my level of "taken care of"
w/ the HPTuners scanner.

I own EFILive and just aqcuired HP Tuner in the last week. I don't see myself leaving EFILive anytime soon as a tuning tool in the shop. EFILive is a very polished package. HP Tuner is definitely off to a good start and is probably adequate for most if they don't have any scan tool to begin with.

HPT kind of has two sides to it. There is the default logging stuff which is great for your every day logs..... but then there is the behind the scenes logging in the "table data" mode, where you can set that particular style tool up to log all kinds of data.

I don't believe any of that custom table data will get logged in the other views like the gauge or chart display - I "believe" like it would with the scanner-only software out there. I don't have any experience with them.

PSJ... my post may have been misleading. The EFILive guys actually are going to be releasing tuning software (Flashscan) that is integrated into EFILive but... I was refering to using EFILive as a tool to aid in tuning vehicles not as the software that actually makes the changes.

You can use EFILive to push spark & fuel maps
but it's single-session override only, it is not
a permanent flashing. They also indicate that
this does not work fast enough to be a good way
to go, for things like the quarter mile. But for a
slower thing like a heavy dyno, it might be a useful
option for "maybe try this" (if you had no other).

Please oh please tell me it will indeed be integrated with EFILive. The only reason I don't have LS1Edit now is I'm pissed I have to buy two seperate pieces of software for two things that are so closely related...

i believe it will be. i downloaded the latest version 2 days ago (V6.4), and it added a new menu called "Tune", and the features under it say "Coming Soon". Bad thing is, you will need a new cable, and it will not be free

thanks for the info guys! now im not sure if I want to sell efilive for hptuners, or if i should keep both. i was thinking of using the money from efilive towards hptuners. hmmm, desicions desicions....

It will be integrated into EFILive. There is already a Tune menu in the latest beta of EFILive. I wish the timing was a bit better on the release... I'm doing the shop tuning again and it looks like I will have a decent amount of $ invested in HPTuner before EFILive's product is out. Still HPTuner is a much more attractive product than LS1Edit. Carputing (LS1Edit) fails miserably when it comes to the business and product enhancement side of things.

Unfortunatley the EFILive tuner won't be supporting 98 PCM's, so I guess some of us are SOL on that one.

I have seen the HP Tuners 'logger, it's pretty nice. You can also hover the cursor over a spot and it will show the rpm. We were looking at track passes and looking at flash speed of the 'verter, shift points, and shift recovery.
