Default SES Light Question

I was driving down the road and my SES light comes on and stays on. I have the computer scanned and it is showing two codes P0420. One for each converter. How odd is that, that they both set codes at the exact same time? After driving the car about 200 miles the SES light is now off. Does this mean the code has cleared itself? Or is it stored somewhere and I need to go clear it. Thanks for help on this.

Random codes that clear (usually on third trip) are just that - the history is stored for 40 start ups, but the problem is gone and the car is unaffected.

Relax!
